Senior Payroll Officer
  • $93,307 per annum + superannuation
  • Full time, ongoing position
  • Geelong based role (Hybrid work model)

About the role

As part of the Business Performance business unit, the Senior Payroll Officer is responsible for providing administrative, analytical and transactional processing leadership to the payroll function, and a high level of customer service to both internal and external clients, and promote compliance with internal policies and procedures.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Lead the payroll team on a day-to-day basis to ensure targets, timetables and customer service expectation are achieved within a control environment of appropriate internal controls including segregation of duties.
  • Provide ongoing advice and education to staff and business using technical skills and experience in dealing with issues and queries; and ensure the delivery of a high level of customer service to internal and external clients in line with service level agreements and WorkSafe values.
  • Assist in development, implementation and maintenance of adequate systems and procedures, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and audit requirements, including identifying any gaps and making recommendations to address them.
  • Apply analysis and research in resolving issues and identifying service and process improvement opportunities.
  • Assist to ensure that payroll transactions and related payroll activities are completed on a timely basis with proper approval and financial delegations, and follow up exceptions with a view to providing an education role to relevant approvers and delegates.

About you

You are an experienced Payroll Officer with 5+ years’ experience in Senior or 2IC positions. You have the ability to run seamless payroll functions and highlight your excellent payroll knowledge. You will have highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate and liaise effectively with staff at all levels and external clients. Additionally, you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Well-developed work planning and organisation skills, and demonstrated ability to address fluctuating work demands, changing priorities and timelines.
  • Proficiency in the use of spreadsheets, word processing, and database applications (preferably MS).
  • Excellent understanding in the workings of PAYG legislation, Superannuation legislation and the payroll and Human Resources practices.


  • Tertiary qualification in a relevant field.
  • Experience using SuccessFactors payroll system will be highly regarded.
