Manager Advisory

The Manager Advisory Services is responsible for managing and coordinating a consistent, high level of services within a diverse team.  This role will lead a Customer focussed approach that supports Worksafe's commitment to reducing workplace harm and improving outcomes for injured workers.

The client services provided encompass the delivery of information and advice to the Victorian community on a wide range of Occupational Health & Safety, WorkCover, licensing and WorkSafe portal issues through telephone, face to face and written communications. The position also oversees the division's administrative support.

This role will develop and maintain an operating methodology founded on best practice with exceptional levels of service delivery and advice.  The role requires the establishment and ongoing maintenance of quality standards, the management and direction of staff and the operation of the service in an efficient and cost effective manner.  This position will be responsible for the ongoing service improvements that will lift both the internal and external reputation of WorkSafe Victoria with clients, stakeholders and the public.

The Manager Advisory Services must recognise emerging business issues and needs. The role will prioritise service responses accordingly and ensure the timely provision of information to support effective response to a client requests for service.

Key accountabilities

  • Lead the provision of advice and information to Victorian businesses and their workers on Occupational Health & Safety and WorkCover through effective leadership of client-facing teams of Advisory professionals using multiple platforms.
  • Establish priorities, track and report progress to ensure advice provided complies with internal policy, legislative requirements and agreed service levels.
  • Provide direction including developing business plans, strategies, and priorities. Monitor work flow, performance and a caseload of Advisory matters such as complaint management, Ministerial liaison and briefings.
  • Responsible for client focussed operational service development, utilising appropriate technology & processes in a cost effective manner and contribute to policy and planning processes for the Division.
  • Anticipate and respond to stakeholder needs and expectations including managing stakeholders through change, resolving conflict and managing sensitivities.
  • Manage and monitor budget and expenditure to enable the achievement of agreed objectives, service and performance targets. Manage the external relationships and contracts with service providers and ensure service standards are maintained.
  • Develop and manage a culture of "Continuous Process Improvement" to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in client service delivery including the development of business cases and recommendations.

Additionally, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to design, develop and implement multi-faceted programs / systems / procedures
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and managing stakeholder relationships at all levels (executive, senior management and operational)
  • Proven ability to liaise and maintain effective relationships with external Service Providers while ensuring contractual arrangements are sound, fair and meet strategic objectives of the organisation
  • Highly-developed interpersonal, consultative and communication skills, including the ability to negotiate and influence at a senior level
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a high workload within tight timeframes, and the ability to identify and work to priorities
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills including the ability to recognise emerging issues of importance and develop innovative solutions in a complex environment
  • Demonstrated experience and ability in the planning, implementation and evaluation of risk assessment and risk management services


  • A tertiary qualification and/or relevant experience in a similar environment
