About the role

The Enforcement Group is responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance with Victoria’s accident compensation and health and safety laws. The Enforcement Group has a team of criminal, administrative, OH&S and compensation legal specialists.

This position is accountable for providing specialist legal advice to support both accident compensation and OH&S prosecutions and providing advice on the conduct of investigations.

Key accountabilities

  • Provide strategic and timely expert oral and written advice to WorkSafe via the Lead Lawyer on complex legal and policy issues.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with the key internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent must manage constructive relationships in a sensitive and potentially volatile environment.
  • Supervise the work performed by legal officers and paralegals in relation matters under the lawyer’s control.
  • Assist in the formulation, development and implementation of guidelines, policies and strategies across the Enforcement Group as required.
  • Identify and propose legislative, procedural or investigative reform where required.
  • Provide legal advice to WorkSafe on aspects of the Enforcement Group’s work, including litigation, interpretation of legislation, legal policy and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience in criminal law, conducting criminal litigation, providing legal advice in a compliance and enforcement context along with advocacy experience, particularly in courts of summary jurisdiction.



  • You will have tertiary qualifications which include postgraduate study
  • Admitted to practice as an Australian Lawyer with at least 3 years post admission experience.
